I researched graphics tablets for several months prior to making this purchase through Amazon.com and I couldn't be happier!
I wanted a graphics tablet specifically as an addition to my Photoshop software and it has made a HUGE difference in not only the control and quality of my restoration projects, but in the speed with which I am now able to work.
Though I've used Photoshop for several years, I am still very much a novice - so anything that can help me work faster obviously means I become more productive.
Throughout my research into graphics tablets, I heard horror stories about pens that were too sensitive or tempermental and work areas that were too small. Prices were also a big concern for me and I nearly fainted the first time I saw the prices for some of the "top-of-the-line" tablets recommended by professional graphic artists. There was no way I could afford to spend as much as $2,500 for anything that my life didn't depend on! The Adesso 8x6 is not only the best size for me, the pen is perfect for my work and within minutes of opening the box and installing the software, I was fast at work. I dare anyone to find the same size tablet with a better price and quality than this one.
For anyone, especially a beginner or someone wanting the convenience of using a tablet without the expense and complications of more expensive models, this is perfect for you. I looked a many tablets from the small 4x6 sizes up to the very large 12x14 models, and of course in nearly every model, the larger the tablet, the bigger the price. Except for this Adesso model. Amazon.com had, by far, the best price for this size tablet, and believe me I looked everywhere - even for the same tablet at major retail stores and everyone else online was at least $15-20 more expensive and most often they only had the 4x6 size.
Although this tablet was only around $105, I purchased the replacement plan from Amazon.com just to be on the safe side. Like I said, price was a big factor for me so I wanted to make certain if anything happened, I would be able to replace the product.
I would recommend this tablet to anyone looking for a great product with the perfect work size for most projects. It's a great tablet, right out of the box, and the additional software "freebies" that are included make it a fantastic deal. With this tablet you will be able to add tremendously to what you are able to do with even your basic projects.
Good Luck and have fun.

| I've used the Wacom brand (Intuos/Graphire) tablet at school and it's a beautiful piece of technology. But with the budget that I'm on at the moment, I couldn't afford buying one of those professional little gadgets. As an alternative, my brother bought this for me for my birthday. When he told me that it would come, I immediatly came to Amazon to check out the ratings and I was a little afraid with there only being three...two not giving it a high score. I went onto the products web site and saw that it wasn't compatible to Photoshop CS2. I was very afraid! But I just received it today and it's way better than I expected it to be. I highly reccomend it to anybody. If you have Adobe Photoshop CS2...don't follow the warning on their website because it's working with mine just fine. |

Adesso has a great product. This tablet works with all of my programs. Even my word processor (Lotus WordPro). This is my first digital tablet experience and I am pleased with it's performance. I considered the Watcom 4x6, but saw this one at 8x6 for a much lower price. Some will tell you that you get what you pay for, but we all know that is not always true. There are times when the lower priced product will be better or better suited for you than the higher priced one.
This table comes with a wireless pen and mouse. While the box says it comes with tweezers to replace the pen tip, I did not find one in the box anywhere. The software is usable, especially the Office Ink handwriting recognition program. I just started the program, used the pen to sign my name in my document, selected the "Write" icon (a Large 'W') and it recognized my handwriting and created a bitmapped image in the document. Yes, you will need to adjust the Frame properties if you want the text to show underneath the writing. It worked in both of my office suites: IBM/Lotus SmartSuite 2003 and MS Office 2003.
The mouse, while useful, I hardly ever used. You may have to adjust the default settings which cause the pen to be rather sensitive. And changing the default buttons assignments on the pen may help for your style. I chose 13% senstivity for the pen and it works fine. Plus, the tablet is HUGE enough you can set it on your lap and go! I tried it even on the artPad.com web site - it works for web pages. In fact, in works in any application that has mouse/drawing support, even Flash web sites.
The tablet has 16 function keys that do work as specified. However, at times the program link may faulter and won't load the app. This is solved by browsing to the program folder directly, and not using the Star Menu locations. But it loads my other programs just fine.
The only CON is that it does not include a manual, not an issue for Pros, but Novices will miss it. Though the programs do have online help. All in all the Adesso 8x6 CyberTablet 8600 was a great purchasing descicion for me. I reccommend it it f yiou are looking for a tablet. |
